How Should I Go About Switching Dentists?

Once you have made the decision to switch dentists you can focus on finding your new practice. Making sure the new dentist is a good fit is important, and there are many things to consider. Think about what type of dental practice you would like for you and your family. Would a family practice work better and if so, make sure the new practice can provide all of the necessary services for your entire family. Research if the practice offers orthodontics if you have teenagers, should you need that type of treatment. This will help to eliminate the need for switching dentists again in the future.

Do your research and check out some online reviews to read about the dentist’s certifications or background. Read about the mission statement to understand the practice values, and how the practice is run. Make sure the facility is updated, and has the latest technology and advanced procedures available.

Once you have done your research and have found a dentist you think may be a good fit, schedule a visit to check out the practice. This way you can see firsthand if you are comfortable, and if your family would benefit from joining the practice.

When visiting the office take mental notes of important things such as how you are treated during your visit, and how long it takes you to get to and from the practice. Ask the staff if you can have a tour of the office to ensure the practice meets your expectations.

Cavityfeat

When patients have cavities the surface of the tooth is permanently damaged, and tiny holes develop. They can be caused by bacteria, the food you eat or drink, and poor oral hygiene. The severity of the decay, and the condition of the tooth will determine what course of treatment is best. At Ambiance Family Dentistry & Orthodontics, we provide many services for our patients, and your health is our first priority.

Our team will always try and save your tooth, and clear away any infection. Many patients enter our dental office in El Paso, TX with symptoms that something is wrong, but in some cases cavities are found during our normal dental exams.

If you have extensive decay, and the infection has reached the pulp area of the tooth, a root canal may be needed. Both fillings and root canals are great ways to save teeth, and prevent further decay or infection. We always choose the best treatment option depending on the condition of the tooth.

When is a Tooth Filling Needed?

Tooth fillings are used for smaller cavities that have not reached the pulp of the tooth. Fractured teeth that are not infected can also be saved using a filling. The area of decay is cleaned out, and then filled with a tooth-colored composite material. This material keeps the tooth intact, and helps to prevent further issues with the tooth in the future.

What Are Some Symptoms That I May Need a Dental Filling?

  • Here are some symptoms and signs that may indicate that you may need to get a dental filling in El Paso, TX with Ambiance Family Dentistry & Orthodontics
  • Sharp or throbbing pain in or around a tooth
  • Your tooth is changing color, or spots can be seen on the surface of the tooth

  • You have a cracked or missing filling

When is a Root Canal Needed?

Root canals may be needed if they area of decay is severe, and the infection has reached the pulp area of the tooth. If a tooth is injured or cracked, and has been left untreated, the tooth may have an infection and need root canal therapy. With root canal therapy the infected pulp area is cleaned out and sealed to restore the tooth. If needed, a dental crown may be used to fully restore the tooth’s functionality.

What Are Some Symptoms That Indicate I May Need a Root Canal?

Here are some symptoms and signs that may indicate that you may need to get a root canal in El Paso, TX with Ambiance Family Dentistry and Orthodontics:

A dental appointment during these unprecedented times, with the presence of the Covid-19 in our communities, we understand that going to the dentist might be a bit challenging and scary. Nevertheless, dental conditions like caries, gum disease and broken teeth won’t stop becoming a real problem because we need to quarantine. We want you to know that with all the safety precautions taking by dental professionals your dental home is one of those safe places that you can visit.

At Ambiance Dental Family we want our patients to rest assured as we are taking all necessary precautions and have placed extra steps in our infection control protocols for you during this pandemic. Dr. Luquis and our team care about your safety and have been working hard to prevent the spread of infection.

Here’s what you can expect:

When you arrive for your appointment you will be asked to wait in your car to avoid crowded waiting areas.  This will reduce the number of people in the office and reduce the amount of time you’re close to other people. Once you are called to come in for your appointment you will be asked a series of questions about your current health to ensure that patients arriving for their appointments are healthy. You may notice that we might also call you before your appointment and ask you the same questions. These questions are repeated to make sure nothing has changed.

We also ask that you limit the number of people you bring to the appointment. That could mean leaving your children at home or allowing older children to go into the treatment room alone while their parents wait outside during their appointment.

During your Appointment

Please be sure to wear a mask to your appointment. When you enter the office, you will be asked to sanitize your hands and will also have your temperature taken.

This is why it is very important to be on time to your appointment as it takes time in between to complete screenings and disinfection processes.

Disinfection process:

Prior to entering the examination room, all surfaces, such as the dental chair, dental light, drawer handles and countertops, have been cleaned and disinfected, wiped and sprayed. Additionally, you will see some equipment with protective covers, which are replaced after each patient.

Non-disposable items like the dental tools are cleaned and sterilized between patients. Disposable dental tools and needles are never reused. Infection control precautions also require all dental staff involved in patient care to use appropriate protective equipment such as gloves, masks, gowns and eyewear when needed, as well as surgical caps.  After each patient, disposable gloves and masks are thrown away.

Before seeing the next patient, everyone on the treatment team washes their hands and puts on a new pair of gloves. You may also notice our staff using more and/or different protective equipment than before. This could include different masks, face shields, gowns and goggles. These additional precautions help protect both you and the staff.

Once you leave our office:

We ask you to report any changes in your medical status as soon as you know. For the benefit and health of our team, other patients and our community it is very important that if you start presenting Flu-like symptoms, have any Covid status changes or think you were in contact with someone that has tested positive to Covid-19, in the days before or after your appointment to let us know. Your personal information will be kept confidential.

If you ever want to know more about our disinfection procedures, do not hesitate to let us know.

Your well-being is important to us. We know the importance of keeping up with your dental cleanings as it affects every system in our body. We are here to help you stay healthy and keep you safe while doing so.
